Sleep and the Rhythm of Life

Sleep. That glorious gift that comes each night with the sandman who generously gives us 7-8 hours of blissful repose that allows us to lay down our burdens and find peace to face a new day with energy and gusto. Right?

Ha! If only! This blissful look at sleep is not my reality and if you've known me for any amount of time you probably know a few things about me... 1) I am a night person, thus that means I am NOT a morning person. 2) I do not sleep well. I won't bore you with the details of why and what the affects of sleep deprivation are in my life. I will however say that lack of sleep shows up everywhere in your life and in order to get enough hours of restorative sleep each night I take medication.

Through a series of unfortunate events I am here in France WITHOUT my medication. Thus, since my arrival in France sleep has not been my friend. I have either not slept at all or I'm trying to fall asleep at the table! I took a "nap" today after being awake for hours last night. I went to take my "nap" at 3pm. I woke up at 11:30pm. WTH???

I can't help but find some humor in the situation. It's that or sob disappointed tears. And THAT is simply wasted energy.

Life has a rhythm. A rhythm that changes without warning. At the moment I am skipping a few beats but I am certain that I will find my groove here shortly. I am thankful to have the time to do so!

As you read this I hope the rhythm of your life beats strong and steady and that your sleep is long and restorative. As for me? Well, I'm a work in progress!

Never underestimate the power of a good night's sleep my friends!
